I was thinking recently that I don’t write much about Brush Ninja. Brush Ninja is a free animation editor made entirely with Javascript and given away for free.
My goal with the Brush Ninja website is to encourage digital creativity. It’s taken me a long time to understand what drives me, and to be honest I am still not there, but I think it’s as simple as that I enjoy making things. And so I want to share that.
The main attraction of the Brush Ninja website is an animated gif maker, but at the start of this year (2022) I added some new creative apps. You can now make Magazines, Photo Collages, and Emoji Art.
Of the new apps the Emoji Art one is the most popular. I originally came up with the idea after seeing the success of Wordle and how the “scores” are shared on social media using a grid of emojis. I’m also a fan of pixel art and so finding out there are square emojis that could be a pixel replacement got me thinking.
The joy of allowing any emoji is that you can be super creative, I’ve mostly used the pixel (square) emojis but I’m sure a lot can be done with the faces, and other things.
This week I added the ability to share an emoji artwork with a url. As you edit the artwork the page url updates with the information required to describe the layout of the art. If you share that url then anyone can see the picture and use it as a starting point for their own image.
Was it good/ useful/ a load of old rubbish? Let me know on Mastodon, or BlueSky (or Twitter X if you must).
